Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 16, 2026

This policy describes how turbomem handles information when you use the open-source library, CLI, and @turbomem/mcp Claude Desktop extension.

Summary

turbomem is local-first. Memories are stored on your computer. We do not operate a cloud memory service and we do not receive your memories, chat content, or API keys. The only external traffic is to the AI provider you choose (OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic) to extract facts and generate embeddings for search.

What we collect

When you use turbomem, you may provide:

  • Memory content - facts you ask to remember.
  • API keys - for your chosen AI provider(s), via the extension installer or environment variables.
  • Configuration - storage path, profile name, provider choice.

turbomem does not send memories or API keys to turbomem servers, collect extension analytics by default, or access Claude conversations beyond what you pass to memory tools.

Local storage

Memories are stored in a database on your machine (default: ~/.turbomem/data). Only software on your device with filesystem access can read it.

Third-party AI providers

Relevant text is sent to the provider(s) you configure for extraction and search. Their policies apply:

Deletion

Use forget or forget_everything in the MCP extension, or delete your data directory. Uninstalling the extension does not remove stored memories automatically.

Website and waitlist

This site and docs.turbomem.dev are static. Waitlist or contact submissions are handled separately from MCP memory storage.
